Soli plays on a Lorée AK oboe
Born and raised in Los Angeles, Soli Jones (they/them) is a performer, music educator, and arranger. Soli holds a BM in oboe performance from the Bob Cole Conservatory of Music at Cal State Long Beach where they received the Cole Scholarship and graduated Magna Cum Laude in 2019. Soli also received an MM from UCLA in oboe performance in 2021 and was selected for the Max H. Gluck Fellowship, performing in educational chamber music concerts across Los Angeles. As as a student, Soli has studied with Victoria Sabonjohn, Jessica Pearlman-Fields, Joe Stone, Claire Brazeau, and Dr. Jonathan Davis.
As an educator, Soli has experience teaching oboe group classes, coaching woodwind sectionals, chamber music, and ensembles, as well as private lessons on oboe, flute, piano, and ukulele. Since 2022, Soli has been an oboe Teaching Artist with YOLA (Youth Orchestra Los Angeles), a part of the Los Angeles Philharmonic. Soli performs on oboe, English horn, and the electric wind instrument (EWI) across Los Angeles and Orange County. Soli enjoys performing in large ensembles, chamber ensembles, and for musicals.
Soli is also one of the founding members of the Couch Quintet. A woodwind quintet formed by friends, the Couch Quintet is one of the winners of the 2025 Beverly Hills National Auditions. The group held their first residency at Arrowbear Music Camp where they led as chamber music coaches and performers. The Couch Quintet shares the fundamental belief that chamber music should be performed in intimate spaces, such as a 'couch' in a living room.
Aside from music, Soli has worked as a freelance photographer for 10 years, taking portraits of musicians and artists. They also collect houseplants, make and design custom stickers, and are a lover of animals and nature.
Soli is a member of AFM Local 47 and the International Double Reed Society.
